We sat down with Brazilian veteran Guilherme "spacca" Spacca ahead of the Americas Minor
We sat down with Brazilian veteran Guilherme "spacca" Spacca ahead of the Americas Minor to get to know his expectations for the tournament, the biggest ever in FURIA's history.
FURIA are full of confidence ahead of the Minor debut after raising eyebrows at their first international event, the ZOTAC Cup Masters Americas Finals, where they finished runners-up to Ghost after moving past Complexity and eUnited, two teams who are also in London.
In this interview, conducted by Dust2.us' Michael "DuckMoriarty" Moriarty, spacca, one of the most experienced Brazilian players still playing competitively, shares his thoughts on the team's plans for the Minor and their group opponents [Complexity, Rogue and Dignitas], and opens up about relocating to Miami after the event.
Coming into this event, what are your expectations for your team?
My expectation is to have a good tournament, this is our second international event, so we are here to improve and maybe we can make history.
This is the largest event you have attended in recent history. Does that add any sort of pressure, considering the type of teams that you may come up against?
I think there is no pressure on us, we are the underdogs in this tournament like we were at ZOTAC. I think we can play without pressure. It is not like teams like NRG and compLexity will not respect us, but I think they will not expect some aggression from us, so I expect this to be a good tournament for us.
If you manage to qualify for the Major itself, what expectations would you have for the event?
To be honest, I do not have an answer to that question. I think the first step is the Minor, we have not practised with Legends teams yet, but I think that if we go through to the Major we will bootcamp in Europe or something, we will prepare to take on these teams and to have some great matches against them.
You will face compLexity, dignitas and Rogue in the group stage. How comfortable are you to face them?
We did not have great preparation or a bootcamp for this event, so I think we will just play our game. We are not disrespecting our opponents, but I think we are prepared to have great games against these teams and perhaps even finish at the top of our group. I think our line-up is really good. It would be great if we could make history here.
With your upcoming move to Miami after the Minor, do you expect to start performing strongly in North America after this event?
We think our results in Brazil showed that we are a great team to compete in the US. We know it will be hard, the level will be much higher there. We had some great games at ZOTAC, and that makes us believe that we can do great things in the US.
Does the confidence that the organisation have in you to fund such a venture make you feel good, or does it add pressure?
I do not think we have pressure, we are like a new team, we created this line-up in February and, since then, we have lost three or four out of the ten in which we have competed. So the pressure on this line-up is gone. Regardless of how the Minor will go, FURIA really trust us.
