fnatic have won DreamHack Bucharest 2012 by defeating Anexis in the final 2-0 (16-9 on de_train and 26-23 on de_tuscan). That earned them a 5,000€ cheque and a spot at DreamHack Winter's $45,000 CS:GO tournament.
Expected match up awaited us in the final of the last international CS 1.6 event, DreamHack Bucharest, as fnatic and Anexis made their way through the bracket earlier today. It was actually the current best team in the world that had more trouble, due to losing the first map to GamerHouse in the semi-final, while Anexis didn't drop a single map on their way to the championship match.
The opening map of the grand final was de_train where fnatic started on the T side. Things didn't seem to start too well for the DreamHack Summer champions, when Martin "trace" Heldt quickly found himself in a 1-on-3 situation, but he pulled off a win, completing his ace in the first round of the final.
Fnatic slowly built up on that and went ahead 5-0 before Anexis replied. The all-Danish squad didn't have much to say in the first half though, as they only collected four rounds, while fnatic's Heldt continued the way he started and led the scoreboard with 23:7.
In the second half pistol he had another chance to be the hero, but this time he didn't manage to clutch and Anexis started getting back in the game.
At 11-7 in favor of fnatic, Nicolaj "Nuggi" Larsen was left in a 1vs2 situation, and even though he initially missed a clear AWP shot on the defuser, he took his second chance and stopped fnatic from taking their first round of the second half.
However, as soon as fnatic got the money to buy the big guns again, they never looked back and won the first map 16-9.
Server then switched to de_tuscan, and after a short break the match continued. Anexis started on the terrorist side and took the pistol round, looking as if they are about to stroll to their first big lead in the match. However, fnatic won an eco round at 2-0 and quickly turned the score to their favor.
Danny "BERRY" Krüger's team then showed that they are not in the final by accident, as they finally started playing well, winning five rounds in a row for a 7-3 lead, with their best player at the tournament, Johan "zanoj" Velling impressing again.
Two close rounds then went to fnatic and the Danish-Swedish squad was quickly back in the game. They stringed a few more good defenses and eventually even tipped the score back in their favor 8-7.
After the sides changed, Anexis won their third pistol round in this match and then fought off a surprise buy to take the lead again. An eco round later at the score 10-8, Frederik "LOMME" Nielsen won a 1-on-2 situation to keep his team in a solid lead.
After five rounds in a row for Anexis, fnatic replied with four of their own and the score stood at 12-12, promising an exciting finish to this final. Anexis was the first to pull out at 14-12 and then 15-13, but same as in their past, they once again allowed their opponents to get back and the match went into overtime.
In the overtime, fnatic kept controlling the result and they finally went up 20-18, sitting on two match points, but Anexis showed mental strength this time and even the score to take the match into double overtime.
But they were unable to continue, as fnatic went up 4-1 before sides changed and even though the match was prolonged for a few more rounds, Anexis were unable to get back into the game once again and de_tuscan finished 26-23.
